Sealing of the burial of Senneferi |
It is likely that all rock tombs were sealed in some form after the burial. The best-known is that of Tutankhamun of course. Probably what happened is that a wall was built of some material, perhaps mud brick, and then wet mud or clay was smeared over it, and then a seal was pressed onto this. In the burial chamber of Senneferi, we found a number of pieces of mud or clay, and some seem to have impressions on them. The following photograph shows what we think is the name of Senneferi. ![]() It must be said that it is also possible that this sealing comes from a jar. |
