View from the Qurn

The Qurn is the hill which towers over the whole of the West Bank, and is very noticeable above the Valley of the Kings. The all-round view is well worth the hour long climb up from the valley. This movie was made in January 1998, from 18 colour prints.

Below is a photo of the Qurn from Sheikh abdel Qurna, the hill in the middle of the starting position of the panorama above. The word Qurn means something like 'horn', and gives its name in the form Qurna to much of the west bank; the name of Sheikh abdel Qurna is said to come from a holy man ('Sheikh') who was supposed to have worshipped the Qurn from the top of the hill which now bears his name.
